Brow tips and tricks

  • Get your brows professionally waxed or threaded every now and then if budget permits.
    • If you find someone who does this for a living, he/she can give you a great shape to your brows.  The goal is to have the arch of the brow just outside your pupil.
    •  I love to go to browbar to get my eyebrows done, I think they do a great job :)
  • Thicker is better.
    • Generally, fuller brows portray youth, so obviously keeping them thicker makes you look younger :) You still want to shape them, but go easy on the tweezers!  Yes you. Put the tweezers down. Step away….
  • Shape accordingly.
    • Ideally you want the inner part of your brow to be thicker, then taper to a thinner line as it goes toward your temple. Again, the arch should be just outside your pupil.
  • For super dark brows, you may need to lighten them.
    • If you have fair skin and very dark brows, you may need to lighten them.  Because my skin is fair and my brows are black, I bleach them slightly with facial bleach to make them less harsh.  Leave the bleach on only for 5 minutes or you will have orange brows!  (Trust me, I learned this from experience.  I had Ronald McDonald brows for 3 weeks last year…)
  • NEVER EVER fill in your brows with black pencil
    • Unless you want the black sharpie brows, just please… don’t do this.  Even if you have black brows, you want to fill them in with a dark brown- not black.
  • Find brow powders/pencils/gels with a khaki tint to them- not red.
    • Because hair naturally has a khaki undertone to it, using a brow pencil that has a touch of khaki color will look more natural.  For whatever reason, most companies have reddish tinted brow products. This color just screams “Fake!”
    • The best products I’ve found is Rimmel’s Brow Pencil in “Hazel” or Makeup Forever’s Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector in “O” or “2″.  (0 is good for blondes or fair skin brunettes, 2 is good for dark haired beauties)
  • For the most natural brows, use powder instead of pencil.
    • for the most natural brows, use a matte finish tan or brown eyeshadow to fill in with.  Take an angled brow brush and apply shadow to sparse areas.  The best color for blondes is MAC’s eyeshadow in “Symmetry” or “Wedge“. For brunettes, it’s MAC’s eyeshadow in “Cork“.
  • Shade accordingly.
    • Not the entire brow is going to be the same darkness all throughout.  Generally, the arch and the tail of the brow should be the most defined and the darkest.  The inner part should be slightly more sparse and lighter.
    • See Kim K’s brows below- they’re a bit more sparse in the inner part of the brow.   Also, cut the hairs here a bit shorter so they “sprout” a bit more
  • Clean up around the edges.
    • For very defined and “clean” brows, take a small flat brush and apply creamy concealer under the brows to tidy up the edges.  You probably don’t need this step for everyday, but for those more defined brows to go with dramatic looks, this helps sharpen them a bit.
  • Tame the strays!
    • I don’t know about you, but my brows are slightly curly and crazay! I have to keep them in place with a brow gel.  Anastasia makes some amazing ones in different colors that is great for on the go. I also like MAC’s eyebrow wax pencils as they keep the brows shaped nicely throughout the day.

How to Layer Jewellery

I love to layer jewellery, but there are somethings you should keep in mind while layering jewelry.

1. Don't over do it - there's a fine line between looking like you're playing dress ups and like your wearing all your jewellery.
Image from: http://stylescream.com/how-to-layer-jewellery/#.U8tYxWQW064

2. Chose one are to layer - Don't have lots of jewellery on both your arms and neck, chose one area that you want to have more than one piece.

3. If you're layering jewellery, have them at different lengths - this makes it look less crowded, and it also means they're less likely to get tangled :)

4. Choose a color scheme or style to layer, unless you're being really brave. Be careful with layering lots of bright colours because it can look to colourful and childish.

5. Dare to mix various metals, lots of different coloured metals are very chic and popular at the moment.

Thanks for reading,
I hope you liked the post :)

Canterwood Crest: Take The Reins

Take the reins is written by jessica burkhart, and it is the 1st book in the canterwood crest series :)

What it's about:
Who says teammates have to be friends?
When Sasha Silver and her horse, Charm, arrive on the campus of the elite Canterwood Crest Academy, Sasha knows that she's in trouble. She's not exactly welcomed with open arms. One group of girls in particular is used to being the best, the brightest, and the prettiest on the team, and when Sasha shows her skills in the arena, the girls' claws come out.
Sasha is determined to prove that she belongs at Canterwood. Will she rise to the occasion and make the advanced riding team by the end of her first semester? Or will the pressure send Sasha packing?

My review:

I really like the how their is the rivalry between sasha and heather fox in the arena and outside. I always like books which have enemies in it, because it makes the characters stronger and more real, because everyone has people who they don't get along with which makes the book more realistic.

I really like all the horse aspects of it, because I love horse riding. I also like how they don't make up 'fake' horse riding moves in it, like they do in some books.

I also really like how the main character is nice, bright and hopeful.I also like how it shows the real aspects of boarding.

Though I don't like how Paige P and Sasha S become best friends really quickly which often doesn't happen in real life. Though every other aspect in the book mirrors real life which makes up for it.

Overall I love the first book in this amazing series, I would rate 4/5 stars :)I hope you like it to.

Top Winter Buys :)

  • A collared shirt

This one from dotti is great as its light, its perfect for layering. Collared shirts peeping out of crop jumpers are really in right now.

  • Cropped Jumpers A cropped jumper like these from dotti are great over a collared shirt or by itself. They are both really great and go with lots of thing.

  • Black Jeans - Black jeans are great because they go with lots of stuff. Blacked jeans are great for winter, because darker colours are usually more trendy in winter.

  • A winter dress - Dotti has great winter dresses. Winter Dresses are usually good if they have black somewhere in it because then you can wear blacks tight with your dress which makes it a lot more warm.

Book Review:The Intern By Gabrielle Tozer

Book Cover

SYNOPSIS

Josie Browning dreams of having it all.
A stellar academic record, an amazing career in journalism – and for her current crush to realise she actually exists. The only problem? Josie can’t get through twenty-four hours without embarrassing her sister Kat or her best friend Angel, let alone herself.
Josie’s luck changes though when she lands an internship at the glossy fashion magazine Sash. A coveted columnist job is up for grabs, but Josie’s got some tough competition in the form of two other interns. Battle lines are drawn and Josie quickly learns that the magazine industry is far from easy, especially under the reign of powerful editor, Rae Swanson.
From the lows of coffee-fetching and working 10-hour days, to the highs of mingling with celebrities, scoring endless free beauty products (plus falling for her cousin’s seriously gorgeous flatmate James) this is one year Josie will never forget.
Totally fresh and funny, this debut novel from industry insider Gabrielle Tozer reveals just what is behind the seeming glamour and sparkle of the magazine industry.

Review:

I really liked the intern, It was one of those books that you can't put down, you just had to keep reading till you finished it. I thought it was really well written. I thought it wasn't a book, where it seems like the author is trying too hard to get a reader to get to know the characters and like them. I loved how the book had a bit of everything: humor, love, fashion etc.

So things were slightly cliche, like how she didn't have the best home situation (mum has problems, dad suddenly walks out). I really liked that it wasn't love at first sight james and josie got to know each other first, so it wasn't cliche, love at first sight really ruins books for me because in real life there's not a lot of love at first sight, as much as we like to believe their is.
If you like the devil wears prada, you will definitely like this novel, because they are both based around the 'magazine world' and are both well written.
I also really love the cover I think its really cute and chic. The cover explains really well what the book is about because her dress is a magazine, so it shows she is an intern for a magazine. I also like how the cover is eye catching and simple black and white.
I also like how the main character Josie, develops as a character. She becomes a lot more confident and more social in the book which is nice. A development of character is always good in a book.
Overall the book is AMAZING, it's definitely in my favourite list.

diy: stencil art/doodle pillow

Now you don't have to use this technique for just pillows, this would be terrific on a shirt or skirt. You also don't have to use spray paint, you could use any type of fabric paint.
Steps
First, you will simply cut out a butterfly design in the center of an 18" x 18" piece of contact paper. You will be using the butterfly you've cut out and the stencil left behind so save them both.
For the 2 side pillows:
  • Peel and stick the butterfly cutout to a piece of white cotton fabric that is about 20"x20."
  • Spray paint over the butterfly like you were painting a grafitti-like daisy.
  • When they paint is dry (about 20 minutes) remove the contact paper butterfly and lightly sketch with a pencil the shape of the petals of the flower and the design you want to put inside your butterfly wings.
  • Using black thread and a simple straight stitch on your machine follow the lines you drew like you were drawing with the sewing machine.
For the center pillow:
  • Take the large 18" x 18" piece of contact paper (the one that looks like a butterfly stencil) and position it on the pillow where you want it. I used 2 different butterflies for this.
  • Cover the exposed fabric with newspaper and paint.

from: http://www.seventeen.com/fashion/blog/diy-sketch-butterfly-pillows
  • Remove the contact paper when dry to expose the butterfly and sketch stitch over it with your machine.
  • Stitch another piece of fabric to create your pillow remembering to leave a hole for stuffing. Stitch up the hole and you're done.
