Step 1: Map it out. Plan how far up you want your ombre to start.
Step 2:Mix together the hair color.
Step 3: Divide your hair into 6-8 sections and apply hair color to the ends of your hair and wrap in foil. Be sure to only add dye to the halfway point from where you want your ombre to start. This will give you room to blend from one hair color to the next. Save the leftover hair color. You will need it in step 5.
Step 4: Let the hair dye sit on your hair for 20-30 minutes. Check your hair under the foil to see how much your hair color has changed. Once you reach the desired color, rinse your hair and blow dry the ends.
Step 5: DON’T FREAK OUT! The first step makes your hair look really tacky because there will be no fading. It will look like a dark hair color and then blotchy blonde hair. Yuck. But don’t fret. This is where the magic happens. You will now use the remainder of your hair color (you probably won’t use it all) to fade from one color to the next. During this step you will want to tease each section of hair right where the harsh transition from brown to blonde starts. Then apply hair color to this section of hair. The teasing allows the transition to not be in a straight line. Leave this hair color on for half the time you left it on in step 3.
